Paul Caligiuri: For the Good of U.S. Soccer
orange county fc head coach paul caligiuri to run for USSF president
Lake Forest, CA – It has been a busy season for Paul Caligiuri as Head Coach of OCFC 2 in the United Premier Soccer League, but now he will be multi-tasking due to the announcement of his candidacy for president of the United States Soccer Federation.
The announcement came from Caligiuri’s Twitter account on Friday, November 3 and he is seeking to replace Sunil Gulati, current president of U.S. Soccer Federation.
“I am extremely excited for Paul and his decision to run for president of the U.S. Soccer Federation,” Orange County FC Owner Nader Dejbakhsh said. “I can’t imagine anyone else but Paul Caligiuri leading our sport in this country through these turbulent times.”
There is plenty of competition for Caligiuri as he is going up against USSF vice president Carlos Cordeiro, Boston attorney Steve Gans, former U.S. international Eric Wynalda, Springfield, Mass-based businessman Paul Lapointe, and NY-based attorney Michael Winograd.
Rumor has it that current president Sunil Gulati is still in the mix to retain his position, but many find it hard to believe considering that the United States Men’s National Team recently failed to qualify to the World Cup for the first time in thirty-two years.
The USMNT needs a new head coach who will get the job done but in the bigger picture the most important change needs to take place at the top of the U.S. Soccer Federation.
“Changes must be made but the changes must change the attitude of the players,” Paul Caligiuri said. “We need to bring in fresh new faces to accomplish what needs to be done.”
According to Caligiuri, part of what needs to be done is to finally bring Promotion/Relegation to U.S. Soccer.
Promotion/Relegation may seem like a long shot in the United States but Paul Caligiuri has no intentions of battling Major League Soccer. Instead, he has the full intention of working with the MLS and bringing in the right people to take U.S. Soccer to the next level.
It doesn’t stop there, Caligiuri also has a plan known as “Goal2019&2022”.
The goals for Caligiuri are for the U.S. women to win the 2019 World Cup and the U.S. men to win the 2022 World Cup.
Paul Caligiuri has a plan and his goals are set to the highest standards and this is what U.S. Soccer fans want.
The USMNT just failed to qualify to the 2018 World Cup and the USSF needs the right person to take U.S. Soccer in the right direction.
No change at the top means no change in the progress of soccer in the United States and the leadership of Paul Caligiuri is exactly what U.S. Soccer needs.
