Ocfc dominate second half with three goals in season finale

Downey, CA – There wasn’t a lot to play for when Orange County FC and A.S. Los Angeles took the field on July 3 to finish the 2019 NPSL regular season.

But the OCFC players were not in the mood to just cash it in and wait for the final whistle.

In fact, 17-year-old defender Nicolai Dejbakhsh made his NPSL debut and was in the starting lineup.

Both teams came out attacking from the start but it was hosts A.S. Los Angeles that took the lead in the 9th minute when Christopher Ribet continued his hot streak by scoring his ninth goal in four matches.

A.S. Los Angeles held the lead going into the half as neither team was able to adjust the score.

OCFC needed to get back on track and midfielder Joshua Bynoe provided the spark when he scored only minutes after the kickoff to level the score at 1-1.

The stage was set for an exciting second half but the situation would become difficult for the hosts when Kristian Saravia was sent off in the 56th minute for violent conduct.

In the 65th minute, midfielder Daniel ten Bosch connected on a long ball and put his shot into the far corner to give OCFC a 2-1 lead.

A.S. Los Angeles furiously looked for the equalizer and put everyone in the box on a corner kick in stoppage time.

But after the clearance, the ball found its way to Mo Abboushi and the speedy winger dribbled the ball into an empty net to give OCFC a 3-1 victory.

OCFC finished the 2019 NPSL regular season with eleven wins, four losses, and three ties.

Unfortunately, OCFC barely missed out on the playoffs and there will be work to do during the offseason.

But no matter what, OCFC players and supporters will never forget a season that was trademarked by a fantastic run in the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

It is easy to be disappointed for the OCFC players that the summer is starting early, but Paul Caligiuri’s men have every reason to keep their heads up.
