orange county fc grind out 1-0 victory over albion in san diego

San Diego, CA - After a disappointing draw one week earlier, Orange County FC was determined to get off to a good start on the road against Albion Soccer Club.

In the 7th minute, OCFC appeared to have taken the lead through winger Peter Gregory but the flag was raised for offside.

Thirteen minutes later midfielder Daniel ten Bosch had an excellent opportunity to give OCFC the lead, but his shot missed a wide-open goal.

Both teams traded opportunities in the first half as a shot from forward Anthony Virgara was deflected for a corner.

Dallin Cutler almost gave Albion the lead after receiving a good pass from Christian Enriquez but OCFC keeper Pepe Miranda came off his line at the right time to deny Cutler.

Defender Ryan Holland calmed the nerves for the visitors when he pounced on a loose ball after a corner kick to give OCFC a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute.

There were no more chances for either side as OCFC went into the locker room with a one-goal lead.

Early in the second half, Enriquez was at the forefront of the Albion attack once again, but his shot was denied by the crossbar.

Albion coach Ziggy Korytoski shook things up in the midfield by bringing on Dutch midfielder Ewout Gouw for Ozzie Ramos while Paul Caligiuri brought on Michael Bryant for Daniel ten Bosch in what turned into a chess match between the two benches.

But there would be no more goals scored as Orange County FC held on for a crucial victory against Albion.

The chances came for both teams, but both keepers were on top form and both teams played disciplined defense.

After the match, center back and goal scorer Ryan Holland was quick to point out the reasons why OCFC was able to leave San Diego with a victory.

"Hard work and managing to grind out a win away from home against a good team," Holland said. "I'd say we are finally clicking as a team and it showed in the win over Albion."

OCFC has now won four out of four matches in San Diego against its NPSL Southwest rivals.
