Lake Forest, CA – Orange County FC is proud to announce that seven players have been added to the first team in preparation for the 2018 NPSL Regular Season.
The new members played for OCFC 2 in the Fall 2017 Season of the United Premier Soccer League.
OCFC is proud to welcome Sebastian Valencia, Josh Davis, Mathew Davis, Cody Shelton, Sam Merritt, Kim Gi-bae, and Dakota Collins.
Last season in the NPSL there were many occasions when players became unavailable due to injury or other matters, but the depth of OCFC was crucial to its success.
OCFC will have plenty of depth on defense with defenders Josh Davis, Mathew Davis, and Sebastian Valencia being added to the squad.
Head coach Paul Caligiuri will have plenty of help in midfield as well with the additions of Sam Merritt and Korean midfielder Kim Gi-bae.
Two of the biggest additions for Orange County FC are Cody Shelton and Dakota Collins.
Shelton played in the NPSL last season for Riverside Coras, but ultimately decided to stay with OCFC.
“The organization, stability, and professionalism displayed from OCFC is a huge reason for me staying,” Shelton said.
“I have a great relationship with owner Nader Dejbakhsh and head coach Paul Caligiuri and they both liked the way I played last season in the NPSL and thought I was one of the better players in the league. That sense of being wanted by a coach and owner is a great feeling.”
Dakota Collins led OCFC 2 in goals and it comes as no surprise considering Collins has played professionally for Sacramento Republic of the United Soccer League and had a spell in Croatia for NK Hask.
Many of the regular OCFC members from last season are expected to return, but the new members from OCFC 2 will provide extra depth to an already dangerous squad.
“We are very happy that we were able to provide a platform through OCFC 2 playing in the UPSL to discover such great talent that can now become part of our first team,” Dejbakhsh said.
Competition brings out the best in a soccer club and there will surely be plenty of competition in the weeks leading up to the 2018 NPSL Regular Season.
