Oc invicta fc grind out victory over ocfc 2

Lake Forest, CA - It was a much anticipated match-up between two of UPSL Pro Premier's newest members in OCFC 2 and OC Invicta FC on September 30 at the Lake Forest Sports Complex.

There has been a lot of hype this season about Invicta and UPSL experts have already considered the new club as favorites to finish top of the 2017 UPSL Fall Season. Some might say it is a little early to make predictions but with players like Paolo Cardozo and Duncan Capriotti, OC Invicta FC will be tough to beat.

Entering Saturday night's showdown, OCFC 2 were provided some reinforcements with striker Alessandro Canale and center back Patrick Ianni appearing in the starting lineup.

Alessandro Canale was the 2017 NPSL joint top goal scorer with seventeen goals and Patrick Ianni is no stranger to the game of soccer after playing for the Seattle Sounders of Major League Soccer and the United States in the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Canale made an immediate impact as he had two defenders on him and his pass found Jonny Romero open in the penalty area in the 33rd minute. Romero fired the ball into the side netting to give OCFC 2 a 1-0 lead.

The goal was Romero's third of the season and he currently leads OCFC 2 in goals.

Invicta equalized just before the hour mark through Junior Sandoval and Edwin Rivas sealed the win with a strike in the 81st minute.

"It was a very physical game and both teams fought hard," said OCFC 2 owner Nader Debash. "I am very proud of our guys for their performance in only their second game as a team. We had many opportunities to put the game away but it just didn't happen."

It was a disappointing result for OCFC 2 but their performance against Invicta should serve as a warning to the rest of the UPSL Pro Premier Division.

OCFC 2 is a force to be reckoned with and they are only getting stronger week by week.
