OCFC 2 Dominate in 5-0 Victory [Video]
ocfc 2 defeat inland empire fc to earn 10th win of season
Lake Forest, CA – It may sound surprising, but for much of the night, there was a lot of frustration for OCFC 2 on December 1 against Inland Empire FC during the final game of the 2019 Fall UPSL Season.
Throughout the first half, it was OCFC 2 creating opportunity after opportunity with crisp passes and excellent ball control.
But the problem was that the scoring chances were not finished and there were plenty of shots that went wide or over the bar.
Goalkeeper Jake Hansen was hardly called into action throughout the night as OCFC 2 dominated the match from start to finish.
Midfielder Connor Gordon thought he had scored the first goal of the night early in the first half but was whistled for offside.
Minutes later on a corner kick, center back Nicolai Dejbakhsh had a free header in the box but sent the ball over the bar.
The breakthrough finally came late in the first half when OCFC 2 caught Inland Empire napping after a whistle.
Defensive midfielder Jordan Chrzan was quick on the restart and found winger Justice Duerksen.
Duerksen’s cross was placed perfectly near the front of the goal as Tristan Korras knocked the ball into the net to give OCFC 2 a 1-0 lead.
Although the first half was frustrating, the second half would be a different story.
Attacking midfielder Cristian Gordillo was brought into the match and was constantly creating problems for Inland Empire FC.
After a receiving a pass from Gordillo at the top of the Inland Empire penalty area, Jonny Romero blasted a shot that was parried by the Inland Empire keeper.
Duerksen was in the right place at the right time as he timed his run to tap in the loose ball and extend the lead to 2-0.
Playing with more momentum, OCFC 2 didn’t take its foot off the gas as a pass from Connor Gordon got to Korras in the Inland Empire penalty area.
Korras was brought down and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.
Gordillo stepped up to take the kick and scored the perfect penalty to give OCFC 2 a 3-0 lead.
The dominance continued minutes later when second half substitute Coby Isaoglu sent the perfect long ball into the Inland Empire penalty area.
Duerksen scored his second of the night as he connected with the pass from Isaoglu to beautifully chip the ball over the Inland Empire keeper to make it 4-0 for OCFC 2.
Isaoglu’s excellent night continued when he started the move that led to the fifth goal for OCFC 2 with time winding down.
A pass from Isaoglu found Leon Sultan and the centering pass from Sultan went straight to Gordillo.
The shot from Gordillo was saved as a lot of traffic at the goal mouth eventually resulted in the ball bouncing off midfielder Anthony Sebastian for an own goal.
The 5-0 win was the perfect way for OCFC 2 to finish the season and will not await its opponent in the playoffs.
With OCFC 2 finishing second in the UPSL Western Conference SoCal North Division I, Paul Caligiuri’s men have earned a bye and will play on December 21 or 22.
