ocfc 2 battle to 1-1 draw with upsl champions

Lake Forest, CA - OCFC 2 were looking to get back to their winning ways on Saturday night against L.A. Wolves FC at Lake Forest Sports Park but both teams left the field with a point in a 1-1 draw.

Early on the Wolves had the majority of possession and midfielder German Alfaro had an excellent opportunity inside the OCFC 2 penalty area but he sailed his shot high over the bar.

Wolves forward Dmitry Zhuravlev had the next chance to give his side the lead but was denied after a great slide tackle from center back Josh Davis at the fifteen minute mark.

OCFC 2 took the lead right before the half-hour mark when leading scorer Jonny Romero scored his 4th goal of the season when he finished off a pass from striker Alessandro Canale.

Six minutes later the L.A. Wolves were awarded a free kick outside the OCFC 2 penalty area and Alfaro made amends for his mistake earlier when his shot curled over the wall and beat keeper Mark Aguilar at the near side post to level the score at 1-1.

Both teams made changes in the second half and OCFC 2 coach Paul Caligiuri made a change in goal and replaced Aguilar with Brent Reis.

Wolves and OCFC 2 fought hard in a physical second half but neither team was able to find the go-ahead goal.

Center back Josh Davis was all over the field on Saturday night with slide tackles and blocking shots to make the job easier for his keeper but Paul Caliguiri's men badly wanted the win against the UPSL Champions.

"We had a couple good chances, especially in the second half to kill the game and we didn’t take our chances," said Davis.

"We kind of lost control a bit towards the end but overall we should be disappointed with the draw. We could have done better."

Many games remain in the Fall Season but with 4 points after three games played against top teams, OCFC 2 continue to show they are a force to be reckoned with in the UPSL.
